New Avenue of Service:

Since KGM members are all good Rotarians, who religiously study their Rotary Information, everybody knows that Rotary has four "Avenues of Service" - namely Club, Community, Vocational & International.

However KGM, being an innovative club, has decided to launch a 5th Avenue of Service - Maintenance Service. Yes Sir.

Don't believe me, huh?

Well apparently it's true, because our effervescent Vocational Service Director Vincent "Bone Bender" Lam has organised a Beauty Afternoon with Dermalogica at 4:00 pm Saturday 1 November at One Capital Centre, 23/F, 18 Luard Road, Wanchai (vicinity of Joe Bananas).

Although most of our male members could certainly do with some minor cosmetic surgery (e.g. a head transplant), this event has been tailored exclusively for female KGM members and the long-suffering "significant others" of male KGM members.

Once the facial reconstruction surgery, er sorry, I mean "Beauty Treatment" is finished, our revitalized ladies can then join the rest of us at Tsuen Wan for our fellowship event on the same day - see below.

Hey, we might even have a Booty, er, Beauty Contest.

Anyway, KGM Members and KGM "Significant Others" of the female persuasion interested in attending this event, should contact Vincent on telephone 9045 6871 or by email.

Fellowship News - Reminder:

Our old mate, KGM Fellowship Director PP "Butch" Cassidy Lam (a.k.a. Body Beautiful), reminds us that the next KGM fellowship will be a Poolside BBQ Night to be held from 7:00 p.m. on Saturday 1 November, at the Panda Hotel, Tsuen Wan.

The cost is once again a very reasonable $200 per head, and this includes a delicious selection of BBQ items, washed down by an unlimited supply of beer and soft drinks.

Members interested in attending should contact PP Cassidy by email.

Membership News - Reminder:

KGM's lovely and talented Membership Director Sonya "Good on ya" Wu has launched a "Member-Get-Member" campaign to encourage members to introduce new blood into KGM.

Check out the promotional poster then download a referral form then go find some new members, OK?

Rotary Information:

Rotary "Geography" Trivia: Are you aware that the Rotary Club of Reno, Nevada, is farther west than the Rotary Club of Los Angeles, California?

Would you guess that the meetings of the Rotary Club of Portland, Maine, are farther south than those of the clubs in London, England?

Can you imagine that the Pensacola, Florida, Rotary Club is west of the Detroit, Michigan, club?

It's a fact that the Cairo, Illinois, Rotary Club is south of Richmond, Virginia and there are 69 Rotary clubs with the word "Tokyo" in their club names.

The Rotary Club of Nome, Alaska, lies west of the club in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Santiago, Chile, club is located east of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Rotary geographers will know that virtually every Rotary club meeting in Australia is east of the Hong Kong Rotary Club.

And did you know that the Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile is the 4th largest of the 49 clubs in District 3450?

What do the Rotary clubs of Quito, Ecuador, Libreville, Gabon, Singapore, and Kampala, Uganda, have in common? You guessed right if you said they all meet approximately on the equator.

There are many interesting relationships and things to learn as you become acquainted with the 30,000 clubs in the wide world of Rotary.

Advice from the Geek:

If you visit a website and suddenly numerous "pop-up" windows start opening up all over your screen, the quickest way to close them is to hold the "Ctrl" key and repeatedly press the "W" key until they're all gone. This tip is especially useful if the usual close window "X" button is not visible at the top right-hand corner of the web page.

If the "pop-up" windows continue to open, log off from the Internet and then close them.

Who Am I?

What is the more common name of 6 foot 5 inch, 300lb wrestler turned actor Terry Gene Bollea?

Clue: He should be green.

The answer appears at the bottom of this issue.

Golden Smile:

One night in a small town, a fire started inside the local chemical plant and, due to the seriousness of the fire, the alarm went out to all the fire departments from miles around.

When the local fire fighters appeared on the scene, the chemical company President rushed to the fire chief and said, "All of our secret formulas are in the vault in the centre of the plant.  They must be saved. I will give US$50,000 to whichever fire department brings them out intact."

However the roaring flames held off the local fire-fighters. Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate.

As more firemen arrived, the President shouted out that the offer was now US$100,000 to the fire department who could save the company's secret files.

Suddenly, in the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was the nearby rural township volunteer fire brigade composed entirely of men over the age of 65.

To everyone's amazement, the little run-down fire engine passed all the newer sleek engines parked outside the plant, and they drove straight into the middle of the inferno. Outside, the other firemen watched as the old timers jumped off and began to fight the fire with a performance and effort never before seen.

Within a relatively short time, the old timers had extinguished the fire and saved the secret formulas. The grateful chemical company president joyfully announced that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to US$200,000, and walked over to personally thank each of the brave, though elderly, fire-fighters.

The local TV news reporters rushed in after capturing the event on film and asked "What are you going to do with all that money "?

"Well," said the 70-year-old fire chief, "the first thing we are going to do is fix the brakes on that damn truck."
