Golden News
Volume 17, Number 7 - Monday 18 August
2003
The official bulletin of the Rotary
Club of Kowloon Golden Mile is published
most Mondays and is distributed to all club members, District officials and other "friends of KGM". Winner "Best English Language Bulletin" in District 3450, 2001/2002 This Week's Meeting:
Our guest speaker this week is Ms. Annie Fung, and the topic of her presentation is "Heifers Worldwide, China". Milestones: Birthday greetings for 20 August
to John "The Bookie" Li
who shares his birthday with rocker Robert Plant.
There are no KGM induction anniversaries
this week.
Semi-Annual Dues - Overdue: Yes folks, if you haven't paid
yet, you're officially overdue and in deep doo-doo, so you will be
severely spanked, but not in the fun way you like.
The amount payable is
$1,500 for the period 1 July to 31
December 2003, and you have three payment options:
1) By cash handed directly to KGM Treasurer Rajiv "Show Me The Money" Makhija; 2) By cheque payable to "Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden
Mile" mailed to P.O.
Box 98129, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon.
3) By credit card through "PayPal" (where you can arrange for automatic re-billing
every 6 months, if you so choose). If you elect to pay by cheque, remember to clearly write your name on the back of the cheque, because our overworked and unpaid Treasurer doesn't always know which company name belongs to which member. Fellowship News:
Our old mate KGM Fellowship Director "Butch" Cassidy Lam announces that the next fellowship will be a Japanese Night to be held on Saturday 30 August with our friends from the RC Peninsula Sunrise. The venue is the Katiga Japanese Food Shop, G/F., Sung Oi Building, 37 Sung Kit
Street, Hung Hom, Kowloon.
Costs are still forecast to be HK$300 or less per head
for food, drink and entertainment, which is rumoured to be a Sumo
wrestling demonstration between IPP Nanu
"Kawabunga" Lachman and former KGM member Hans "The Hun" Peter. Bring a
raincoat.
++++++++++++++++ STOP PRESS: Next Annual Ball - Saturday 28 February 2004,
Grand Hyatt Ballroom - more details to
follow.

Rotary Information: Interact: Is one of Rotary's many youth programs, and Interact was launched by the RI Board of Directors in 1962. The first Interact club was established by the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Florida. Interact clubs provide opportunities for boys and girls of secondary school age to work together in a world fellowship of service and international understanding. The term, Interact, is derived from "inter" for international, and "act" for action. Every Interact club must be sponsored and supervised by a Rotary club and must plan annual projects of service to its school, community and in the world. Today there are over 7,200 Interact clubs with more than 155,000 members in 88 countries. "Interactors" develop skills in leadership and attain practical experience in conducting service projects, thereby learning the satisfaction that comes from serving others. A major goal of Interact is to provide opportunities for young people to create greater understanding and goodwill with youth throughout the world. KGM sponsors two Interact
Clubs: The Interact Club of Ying Wa College and The
Interact Club of Ying Wa Girl's
School.
Ask The
Geek:
The Geek is on leave this week. Grumpy
grumbles:
Don't you just hate the way .................... by an amazing coincidence, Grumpy has no complaints this week! Who Am
I?
What is the more common name
of leading female dancer of the 40's and 50's Virginia Katherine
McMath?
Clue: Fred. The answer appears at the bottom of this issue. Golden Smile: A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screamed, lost control of the car, nearly
hit a bus, went up on the footpath, and stopped inches from a shop
window.
For a second, everything was quiet in the cab, then the
driver said, "Please don't ever do that again. You scared the living
daylights out of me!"
The passenger apologized and said, "I didn't realize
that a little tap on the shoulder would scare you so much."
The driver replied, "Sorry, it's not really your fault.
Today is my first day as a cab driver -- I've been driving a hearse for
the last 25 years."
