Volume 17, Number 4 - Monday 28 July
2003
The official bulletin of the Rotary
Club of Kowloon Golden Mile is published
most Mondays and is distributed to all club members, District officials and other "friends of KGM". Winner "Best English Language Bulletin" in District 3450, 2001/2002 This Week's Meeting:
Milestones: There are no KGM members celebrating a
birthday or anniversary this week ............. boring
!!
Member Updates: Manu "Choo
Choo" Chulani advises his new email address is manu@rama.com.hk
Recent inductee Anthony "?????" Wong advises his email
address is anwfwong@yahoo.co.hk John "The
Hitman" Hirsch has officially taken over as
Sergeant-At-Arms from Graham "Deadly"
Daley because, well, he's meaner !
Semi-Annual Dues - Final Reminder: Yes folks, it's time once again
to pay your dues of $1,500 for the period 1
July to 31 December 2003, and you have three payment options:
1) By cash handed directly to KGM Treasurer Rajiv "Show Me The Money" Makhija; 2) By cheque payable to "Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden
Mile" mailed to P.O.
Box 98129, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon.
3) By credit card through "PayPal" (where you can arrange for automatic re-billing
every 6 months, if you so choose). If you elect to pay by cheque, remember to clearly write your name on the back of the cheque, because our overworked and unpaid Treasurer doesn't always know which company name belongs to which member. Fellowship News:
Our old mate KGM Fellowship Director "Butch" Cassidy Lam announces that the next fellowship will be a Japanese Night to be held on Saturday 30 August with our friends from the RC Peninsula Sunrise at a venue to be advised. Costs are forecast to be HK$300 or less
per head for food, drink and entertainment, which is rumoured to be a Sumo
wrestling demonstration between IPP Nanu
"Kawabunga" Lachman and former KGM member Hans "The Hun" Peter. Bring a
raincoat.
+++++++++++++++++++++++ STOP PRESS: Annual Ball - Saturday 28 February 2004, Grand Hyatt
Ballroom - more details to follow.

Rotary
International News:
On 18 July 2003, the RI Board officially admitted the
RC Niislel and the
RC Zuunmod (both in Mongolia)
as member clubs of Rotary International.
This means that District 3450 now has 54 clubs in four geographical areas - Hong Kong, Macau, China and Mongolia - under it's care .
Rotary Information: KGM Council Of Past Presidents: The KGM Council Of Past Presidents (COPPs) was formed during the 1993/94 Rotary year, and is comprised all KGM Past Presidents who remain Active Members of KGM. The primary function of the
COPPs is to serve as advisors to the incumbent President and/or
Board, if and when their guidance on any matter pertaining to KGM is
sought, however the management of club affairs and all final decisions
remain with the incumbent President and the KGM Board of
Directors.
Since inception, the COPPs have
invariably been asked by the Board to serve as the nominating committee in
respect of the selection of all candidates for our annual Election of
Officers, particularly the President-Elect, as they know what it takes to
serve as President and they themselves are not candidates.
Although there are no standard
operating procedures, the Immediate Past President of KGM has
traditionally served as Chairman of all COPPs meetings, and the
incumbent KGM President is always included on the email distribution list
and is invited to all COPPs meetings.
Ask The
Geek:
The Geek and the Web Monster are having a few problems sorting out the email distribution lists, as it appears our new ISP cannot do all the things which were originally promised. For the time
being, the former "@rotary3450.org" email distribution lists
continue to be maintained and operational, pending a resolution of our
problems with Pacific Net Hosting.
Grumpy
grumbles:
Don't you just hate the way Mini-Buses invariably "red-line" their engines between gear changes as if they're driving Formula 1 racing cars with 5 litre engines, when they actually have two very tired mice in a treadmill under their hoods? You know the drill: SCCCCCRRRRREEAAAAAMMMM, clunk-crunch, SCCCCCRRRRREEAAAAAMMMM, clunk-crunch etc. Who Am
I?
What is the more common name of 60's Jazz
Diva Norma
Egstrom?
Clue: Despite her temperature, there's no need to call a doctor. The answer appears at the bottom of this issue. Golden Smile: Little Johnny's family moved from Arkansas to New York, and little Johnny enters school in the 2nd Grade. After the first day at school, little Johnny comes home proud as punch, and he tells his mother: "Mommy, today in school the teacher asked us to count, and I got all the way up to 100, but the other kids only got as far as 20". And his mother replied: "Well Johnny, that's because you're from Arkansas". After the second day at school, little Johnny comes home with a huge smile on his face, and he tells his mother: "Mommy, today we had to recite the alphabet and I was the only kid who could go all the way from A to Zee". And his mother replied: "Well Johnny, that's because you're from Arkansas". After the third day of school, little Johnny comes home with a confused look on his face, and his mother asks: "Johnny, what's the problem?". Little Johnny says: "Mommy, today after basketball practice, all of us kids were taking a shower and I noticed that my penis is much bigger than the other kids. Is that because I'm from Arkansas?" And his mother replied: "No Johnny, that's because you're 30". Quotable Quotes:
