Postcard from
Manila:
Yes folks, your intrepid bulletin editor is still
in the Philippines but I am gradually heading back to Hong Kong. I just
have to make one more stop in Gothenburg in order to assist the Swedish
Shooting Team adjust their equipment :-)Judging by
the photograph of our Fearless Leader President Ebe Tung "Chee Wow" on the left,
the District Installation held
on 20 July was yet another exciting event. I understand that when the
photograph was taken, President Ebe was reflecting deeply on the current
Rotary annual theme "Mankind Is Our
Business" and contemplating how KGM, under her
leadership, could incorporate the new theme into our daily
activities. Or maybe she was just asleep?
Anyway, since our regular meeting was cancelled last week due to the effects of Typhoon Yutu (a distant relative of Bishop Desmond Tutu), there is not much to report. However KGM Attendance Director Neerja "Super Surfer" Sujanani advises our YTD attendance has now improved to 88%, which further exceeds our minimum overall target of 75% for the year. Many thanks to those members who continue to make-up for missed meetings. By the way, last week's scheduled
speaker, Ms. Sravaniya Di
Pecoraro, has been rescheduled to address us on
"Yoga" on 12 September 2001.
In the meantime, please continue practicing your "Crouching Dog" position,
preferably with a friend of the opposite sex.
Yee-haaaaa!
This Week's Meeting:
Mr. Anthony Lawrence will be speaking to us on "The BBC". Milestones:
There are no KGM members celebrating birthdays or other milestones this week. However actor Arnold
Schwarzenegger and actress Lisa Kudrow both celebrate birthdays
today.
Member Updates:
Our old mate Terrence Annamunthodo, who continues to cause formatting problems on KGM spreadsheets due to the length of his name, advises that he has moved office to Suite 4207-8, Lippo Centre, Tower 1, 89 Queensway, Hong Kong. Terrence also advises that any KGM member who pays him a visit at his new office will be taken to lunch at the Mandarin Grill. Of course you have to pay for the lunch, but he will definitely take you there. What a guy! Fellowship
News:
Although details have yet to be finalised, Fellowship Director David "Party Dude" Harilela advises that the next KGM fellowship will be held on Saturday 18 August 2001. In the meantime, David is looking for one Chinese member and one "NINC" (Non Indian, Non Chinese) member to join his fellowship committee, which will thereafter be known as the "Three Amigos". Or maybe Larry, Curly and Moe? Please contact David directly by email or by telephone to 9168 8333 if you are willing to assist him. Semi-Annual
Dues - Final Reminder:
KGM Members are reminded that Semi-Annual dues of $1,500 for the period 1 July to 30 December 2001 are NOW OVERDUE. If you have ignored the previous four reminders, now would be a good time to prepare a cheque payable to "Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile" and post it to P.O. Box 98129 Tsimshatsui, or pass it to KGM Secretary Clarissa "Ring My" Bellstedt, as KGM Treasurer PP Vince "Scrooge" Pinto is still out of town. Next week in this column: A "shame on you" list of the bad boys and girls who have not paid. District 3450 News: 1) A
District Membership Development Seminar will be held from
2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. next Saturday 4 August
2001 at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Jockey Club
Building, 99 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong.
KGM Membership Director Diana "The Red Baron" Chou is looking for members to help keep her company. KGM members who attend at least 60% of this event will earn 1 attendance credit. 2) Members who have a copy of the 2001 District Pocket Planner are advised of this year's errata: The President of the RC of Kowloon is Rtn. Dominic Ling and not whoever is currently listed. The correct correspondence details for President Dominic will be distributed shortly. Rotary International News: A) Did you know that the new slogan of Rotary International is "A Global Network of Community Volunteers"? Simple really ! Golden Smile:
A door-to-door salesman knocks on the front door of a house, which is opened by a 9 year old boy who has a lit cigar in one hand, a bottle of whisky in the other and a copy of "Playboy" magazine tucked under his arm. The salesman asks: "Hello young man. Are your parents home?" To which the little boy replies: "What the hell do you think?" Quotable Quotes:

people; they merely amplify what is already
there." -- Will Smith
