Duties of the
Community Service Director
|
The Community Service Director is the "Santa Claus" of our club ! During each Rotary year, the club embarks upon a variety of fund-raising projects in order to raise money for our Community Service Fund. These fund-raising projects are usually organised by the President-Elect and, in previous years, have included Gala Movie Premieres, Walk-A-Thons, the production and sale of Xmas Cards or cookbooks and so on. In fiscal terms, funds raised by the President-Elect and the fund-raising committee during, say, the 1999/2000 Rotary year are only available for disbursement to worthwhile charities or other recipients during the (following) 2000/2001 Rotary year. The primary function of the Community Service Director is to identify suitable beneficiaries for our funds and/or to investigate applications for funding received by the club. After due consideration of the various applications for funding received by the club and the amount of funds which are available from the previous year, the Community Service Director will make a recommendation to the Board of Directors in respect of actual disbursement of funds. Once the Board has approved the disbursement of funds, the Community Service Director can then request the Treasurer to make the necessary remittance or otherwise release the approved funds. As a general rule, our club should not provide funding for recurrent items of expenditure. In other words, we should not provide funding for items such as rent or salaries, nor should the Board of Directors commit the club to support projects which require funding beyond their tenure.
