Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile

Duties of the

Bulletin Director

The Bulletin Director of the club plays a vitally important role in the dissemination of information between various entities, including between the District & the club, and between Club Directors & the general membership. The Bulletin Director is therefore the central figure when it comes to the communication of announcements, programs and other activities.

Since 1st July 1999, the club bulletin "Golden News" has been published electronically by email, which means that all news and announcements can be regularly, reliably & instantly communicated to members, even while they (or the Bulletin Director !) are travelling overseas.

Although the Bulletin Editor can source much information by referring to the club and/or district web sites, he cannot single-handedly generate all the information required for the bulletin, and he necessarily relies on other club directors to provide information to him.

While the following list is not exhaustive, the following items should form the core of each issue of the club bulletin:

1) Administrative messages from the club President, Secretary and Treasurer.

2) Announcements from the Attendance, Fellowship, Membership, Program, Community Service and Vocational Service Directors.

3) News and information in respect of forthcoming District 3450 and Rotary International events.

4) Member news items such as member's birthdays, the birth of member's children etc.

5) Tidbits of Rotary Information.

6) Promotion of club Fund Raising events.

Moreover, the key to a successful bulletin is to ensure that:

A) It is published like clockwork on the same day every week, in advance of the regular club meeting.

B) The focus must be on advance notice of forthcoming events, which is far more important than reporting on past events (i.e. it is a bulletin, not a newspaper)

C) The Editor should use a spell-checker - nothing "cheapens" the printed word more than poor spelling !
