Rotary Club of Kowloon
Golden Mile
Duties of
All Club Members
|
The Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile, like many other voluntary membership organisations, operates on a 20/80 formula. In other words, 20% of the membership do all the work while the other 80% have lunch :-) Jokes aside, there are certain basic things which all members of KGM are expected to do. Some of these are membership obligations (such as attendance), however others are merely a case of being co-operative, supportive or just plain courteous: 1) Attend as many regular club meetings, fellowships, seminars, community service projects and vocational service visits as possible. Despite the fun and social activities we organise and enjoy in each other's company, Rotary is a service club, not a social club. 2) Promptly respond to
email or fax requests. Nobody expects you to attend every single
function we organise, but please have the common courtesy to at least respond
when you are invited to or notified about an event. Most events require a lot
of planning, and the key information we invariably need is the number of
attendees. 3) Pay your dues on time. It really is no fun chasing member's to pay their semi-annual or other dues, and it would certainly make life a lot easier if you would respond to payment requests within 7 days. If you have difficulties paying your dues, inform the Club Secretary or another Club Director. Your Board understands that members occasionally face such problems, and the last thing we want is to lose an otherwise good member over a money. 4) Contribute your time. Happily agree to be on the Welcome Committee, to introduce Visiting Rotarians, introduce Guests or to offer the Vote of Thanks to guest speakers at weekly meetings. The Sergeant-At-Arms has a very full agenda each week, and the last thing he/she needs is to run around looking for volunteers to handle these relatively simple tasks. 5) Read the club bulletin. It is delivered to your computer by email, and it only takes 10 minutes to read. This way you will be fully informed of what's happening in your club. 6) Be a Good Host. This club belongs to all of us, and it therefore behooves all of us to make Visiting Rotarians and guests as welcome as possible. We are all hosts at our regular club meetings. If you see a new face, introduce yourself and make sure the visitor has a drink and is generally feeling welcome. If you see somebody standing alone, do something about it. 7) Be a Good Relative. Personally congratulate new members immediately after they are inducted and make them feel as welcome as possible in their new Rotary family. Remember some people are more shy than others, especially when it comes to joining a new club. 8) Attend. Did I mention that already ? :-) The most essential element of Rotary is attendance. We want to see you every week. We want to have fun with you at fellowships. We want to share your happiness and your sorrows. We want to cry on your shoulder, and we want you to cry on ours. We want to know more about you and we want you to know more about each of us. But. most of all, we want to work with you to improve the lives of those around us who have not been as fortunate as us. Attend, and all the rest will eventually fall into place. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
