Winner "Best English Language Bulletin" in District 3450, 2001/2002

This Week's Meeting:

Our speakers this week are President Nanu "Nanu" Lachman and the Board of Directors (a.k.a. Santa & His Elves). Why? Well, because this week is our Annual General Meeting, including the Election of Directors for the 2003/2004 Rotary year (see below).

Once all of the formalities have been completed, we'll start our Xmas Party. All in all, we should be done by Saturday.

Milestones:

Once again there are no KGM members celebrating birthdays, Mark 6 wins, divorces or other such occasions this week. Boring.

BOD Meeting:

KGM Directors are reminded of the next BOD meeting which will be held 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night, Tuesday 17 December 2002, at the usual venue, namely the conference room on the 2nd floor of the Holiday Inn Golden Mile.

If you cannot attend and have not already advised somebody, please call KGM President Nanu Lachman on 9025 6699 as soon as possible, otherwise he will hurt you.

Election of Directors for 2003/2004 Rotary year:

As required by Club By-Laws, incumbent President Nanu and President-Elect Patricia are automatically elected to serve on the next BOD as IPP and President respectively. Moreover, the election committee, comprised of KGM Past Presidents, has nominated the following members for your consideration:

(1) President-Elect: Silva Yeung, Vice-President: Elissa Cohen, Secretary: Clarissa Bellstedt, Treasurer: Rajiv Makhija. These members have confirmed their willingness to occupy these key positions on the BOD.

(2) For unspecified positions, the following members have been nominated: PP Louis Thomas, PP Vince Pinto, PP Cassidy Lam, IPP Ebe Tung, Carola Chard, Brian Hodgson, Miranda Kong, David Harilela, Pico Dialdas, Sonya Wu, Graham Daley and Dilip Parmanand.

If club members accept the nominations in Part (1), you will be required to select nine (9) of the twelve (12) names in Part (2). Of course m
embers will be given ballot forms and further guidance during the meeting.

Fellowship News - Last Call:

Our old mate KGM Fellowship Director Miranda "King" Kong reminds members of our December fellowship, which is a "Beef, Boogie & By-pass" night to be held from 7:15 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. on Saturday 21 December 2002, at JJ's Grill at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Wanchai North.

The price is only $320 per head, and this gets you an impressive selection of appetisers, grilled main courses and very fattening desserts, all washed down by copious and unlimited amounts of beverages including beer, wine and hooch. After dinner, you can make a complete fool of yourself on the dance floor as you attempt to replicate your dancing skills from your youth, if you ever had any. Paramedics will be standing-by.

Members interested in attending this event should contact Miranda by email or on telephone 9199 3077.

Fund-Raising KGM Polio Plus Cookbook:

Our sweet and elegant President-Elect Patricia "Iron Lady" Blair (of the Blair Witch Project), and her faithful side-kick Sonya "Woo-Hoo" Wu (of the Wu Tang Clan), continue to actively promote our new & improved KGM cookbook entitled "Dining In with Great Chefs of Hong Kong".

The price is only HK$188 per copy and an image of the cover has been uploaded to the KGM website.

Recipes, contributed by Hong Kong's leading chefs, include world renown exotic dishes such as "Fromage Sur Le Toast", "Filet Mignon Vache Fâchée", "Le Poisson et Pomme de Terre Anglais" and "Le Haagen-Daz Avec Le Sauce Chocolat".

For more information, contact Lady Patricia on telephone 9312 3606 or by email.

By the way, KGM can now accept online payments by major credit card through PayPal. Please tell your friends in Hong Kong and overseas about this new facility, in order to assist sales of the cook book in support of our Polio Plus fund-raising activities.

Community Service News - Last Call:

KGM Community Service Director Diana Chou announces that she has organised a visit to the Nam Long Hospice, 30 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday 21 December 2002.

The purpose of the visit is to bring some Christmas cheer and gifts to terminally ill patients living out their final days. Entertainment such as Chinese Opera and a magic show have been arranged, and volunteers will also give patients hand and feet massages.

Bringing some warm and laughter to the patients will be a wonderful Christmas gesture and Diana hopes KGM members will be willing to give up a few hours of their time to support this worthwhile "hands-on" project.

As Diana is currently travelling, members willing to lend their support should contact Elissa Cohen by email.

Who Am I?:

What is the more common name of Irish rock singer Paul David Hewson?.

The answer appears at the bottom of this issue.

Geek Speak:

OK folks, it's silly season once again, so you can expect your email inbox to be flooded with various forms of season's greetings.

However I remind you never open an attachment, regardless of who sends it to you, unless you first scan it for viruses, worms, head lice, bird flu, rabies and other similar nasties. It won't be a very happy Christmas or New Year if your computer goes on the blink, now will it?

You've been warned. Again.

Golden Smile:

A young blonde woman calls her boyfriend and says, "Can you please come over here and help me? I have a really difficult jigsaw puzzle, and I can't even figure out how to get it started."

Her boyfriend asks, "What's it supposed to be when it's finished?".

The woman replies, "According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster".

So the guy heads over to his girlfriend's house to help with the puzzle. She lets him in and shows him where she has the pieces of the puzzle spread all over the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, "First of all, no matter what we do, we're never going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster."

He then held her hand and said, "Secondly, I have a better idea. Let's have a cup of coffee then we can put all these Corn Flakes back in the box and watch TV instead."

Quotable Quotes:
