Winner "Best English Language Bulletin" in District 3450, 2001/2002

This Week's Meeting:

Our speaker this week is Mr. Charles Orr on the topic "Is E-Learning for your company?".

Milestones:

Birthday greetings for 29 November
to Jagdish "Washer" Pursram, who shares his birthday with jazz musician Chuck Mangione, who has an enormous horn.

Fellowship News:

As we've yet to receive a report from KGM Fellowship Director Miranda "King" Kong about the last fellowship at the HK Gold Coast Yacht Club last Saturday, and details of our next fellowship, there's nothing really to tell you. Ho-hum

However if you, like me, would like to see a more exciting fellowship now and then, let's all petition Miranda to hold a Spanking Party at Fetish Fashion. We can all get dressed up in kinky leather clothing (Sergeant Susie, pictured left, come as you are!), and we could proceed to spank each other while drinking ourselves senseless.

Interested in having such an event? Contact Miranda by email.

Special Event - Visit to SAA:

Our old mate Vincent "Bone Bender" Lam has organised a visit to the animal sanctuary of the Society for Abandoned Animals ("SAA") in Yuen Long for Saturday 7 December 2002.

Complimentary transportation, graciously sponsored by Community Service Director Diana "Red Baron" Chou, will depart from the Holiday Inn Golden Mile at 2:00 p.m.

SAA, a registered non-profit charity, was established in 1977 out of a need for the rescuing and re-homing of hundreds of abandoned, neglected and abused animals in Hong Kong. The main difference between SAA and other animal welfares is SAA never puts an animal down just because the animal can’t be re-homed. In addition to that, SAA never refuses any animal in need, sickness or senility.

Since its inception, SAA has re-homed close to 2,000 animals in individual homes, schools and organizations. However, there are a handful (10 to be exact), that are deemed unsuitable for adoption, for one reason or another. For these animals, SAA will be their home for the duration of their natural lives.

During the visit, you will see first-hand the work undertaken by the SAA, and children can learn about caring for animals, the concept of give-and-take and the unconditional love they will receive from the animals in return for their loving care.

Members interested in attending this event should contact Vincent Lam by email or by telephone to 9045 6871.

Fund-Raising KGM Polio Plus Cookbook:

Our beloved President-Elect Patricia "Iron Lady" Blair (no relation to Tony), and her faithful side-kick Sonya "Woo-Hoo" Wu have almost completed production of the new and improved KGM Cookbook.

Although we have absolutely no idea about the price or when it will be available, we have a nice image of the cover.

Recipes, contributed by Hong Kong's leading chefs, include world renown exotic dishes such as "Fromage Sur Le Toast", "Filet Mignon Vache Fâchée", "Le Poisson et Pomme de Terre Anglais" and "Le Haagen-Daz Avec Le Sauce Chocolat".

For more information, contact Patricia on telephone 9312 3606 or by email.

District 3450 News:

This will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Thursday 19 December 2002 at the Grand Ballroom, Intercontinental Hotel (formerly The Regent Hotel), in Salisbury Road, Tsimshatsui.

The cost is $500 per head, and there are only 500 seats available on a "first come, first served" basis.

Members interested in attending this event should contact Club Secretary David Harilela by
email as soon as possible.

Rotary International News:

1) November is Rotary Foundation Month, so if you're not yet a Paul Harris Fellow (and many long time members are not!), you should expect a call from KGM Rotary Foundation Director PP "Hopalong" Cassidy Lam, who will do his very best to relieve you of US$1,000 for a very worthwhile cause.

If you forget whether or not you are a Paul Harris Fellow, take a look at the Club Roster on the KGM website.

2) KGM Club Secretary David "Party Dude" Harilela has been appointed "On To Brisbane Chairman" in respect of the next RI Convention to be held in Brisbane, Australia from 1-4 June 2003.

Visit the RI website or the event website for more information, or contact David on 9168 8333 or by email.

Who Am I?:

What is the more common name of mystery novelist David John Moore Cornwell?

The answer appears at the bottom of this issue.

Dear Geek:

GEEK WARNING:
Beware of STATIC - this, amazingly, is not a joke.

Apparently static electricity is such a problem while refueling cars, the Petroleum Equipment Institute has issued a public warning on their website. Check it out!

Golden Smile:

This is the updated version of Abbott & Costello's "Who's On First" dialogue. It's G.Dubya Bush speaking with Condolezza Rice at the White House:

George: Condi! Nice to see you. What's happening?
Condi: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China.
George: Great. Lay it on me.
Condi: Hu is the new leader of China.
George: That's what I want to know.
Condi: That's what I'm telling you.
George: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China?
Condi: Yes.
George: I mean the fellow's name.
Condi: Hu.
George: The guy in China.
Condi: Hu.
George: The new leader of China.
Condi: Hu.
George: The Chinese leader!
Condi: Hu is leading China.
George: Now whaddya' asking me for?
Condi: I'm telling you Hu is leading China.
George: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China?
Condi: That's the man's name.
George: That's who's name?
Condi: Yes.
George: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of
China?
Condi: Yes, sir.
George: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East.
Condi: That's correct.
George: Then who is in China?
Condi: Yes, sir.
George: Yassir is in China?
Condi: No, sir.
George: Then who is?
Condi: Yes, sir.
George: Yassir?
Condi: No, sir.
George: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone.
Condi: Kofi?
George: No, thanks.
Condi: You want Kofi?
George: No.
Condi: You don't want Kofi.
George: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. And then get me the U.N.
Condi: Yes, sir.
George: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N.
Condi: Kofi?
George: Milk! Will you please make the call?
Condi: And call who?
George: Who is the guy at the U.N?
Condi: Hu is the guy in China.
George: Will you stay out of China?!
Condi: Yes, sir.
George: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N.
Condi: Kofi.
George: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone. (Condi picks up the phone.)
Condi: Rice, here.
George: Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. Maybe we should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East. Can you get Chinese food in the Middle East?
