Opening Shot A Rotarian, out walking one
day, kicks an old bottle and a Genie suddenly appears. The
Genie says: "Because you have freed me l will grant you one wish.
Louis replied "I would like there to be everlasting clean air
here". Genie: "You must be joking. To get the
Government here to move on that one is far beyond my powers. Do you have another
more reasonable wish I could consider?". Louis: "Could help me master html,
embedded objects, and bulletin writing up to the standard of the Phantom and
also stop introducers of Rotarian Guests calling for collective welcomes".
Genie: "Hmmmmm. On second thoughts, could you get me an introduction to DG John
Wan?

Public Service
Announcement
Last week under this heading the Fanta forgot to
mention whether if the mobile is swinging from a piece of string it alright to
use it.
Attendance
Well folks, I'm including this subject because it
seems to be on everyone's lips. PP Vince made no mean mention of it is his last
issue, IPP Ram mentioned it in his notes to me, virtually every club in the
world is concerned with it and the International President has it high on his
list of priorities for this year. Why? Who knows? Yet, no one in their right
mind would not admit that some significant changes are happening in our global,
national, regional, community and family societies which must have something to
do with it all. Well we can sit on our you know whats and think about it, write
to our bulletin editor who promises to read and absorb, or, why not come to the
meetings and express your ideas about it. Just maybe, in our (KGM) Club's
"society" someone is not doing something quite the way you would like it. Come
and tell us. As PP Vince mentioned last week we are now one of the biggest clubs
in the district. Wouldn't it be "money where our mouth is" for us to be the most
well attended?
"NINC"
Fellowship Night
Was held last Friday in Rico's Spanish Restaurant on
Robinson Road, just opposite Rtn Hans' office, (?) the last event for the
current year. One hears that PP Vince parked his Harley Davidson in the nearest
car park somewhere in Shatin, took a taxi as advised, and was last seen looking
for it sometime in the early hours of Saturday morning. The food was great, the
company greater and the band and singer out of this world. (Only joking).
Last Week's Meeting
was the 52nd and last of the
year. Attendance was pretty good says IPP Ram, without mentioning that I was in
Changi Airport, Singapore wishing I could be with you. Alas I couldn't so I rang
Rtn. Carola to ask her to take notes for me which normally would not have been a
problem except that Carola was having breakfast in Germany somewhere. The
speakerswere the outgoing directors in their final Club Assembly for
99/00 and you were encouraged to grill them on their respective porkfolios. No
doubt this was in anticipation of the eagerly awaited Nincs' fellowship
evening.
PDG Sushil
Gupta from New Delhi attended and talked about KGM's participation in the
Matching Grant programme with the RC of Delhi Midwest to help provide equipment
to the maternity and child welfare department of the Ramakrishna Mission
Sevashrama Hospital in Hardwar. He thanked us and District 3450 for our
contributions.
DG
Dipo then spoke about the events of his year in office and thanked KGM for its
support.
Sergeant at
arms Rtn Mazhar, Visiting Rotarians introducer Don and Guests of Rotarians
introducer Norman then did their thing.
Next was the induction of Rotarian SK Lam,
a precursor of the coming mass induction a few days later! Kowloon Golden
Mile Rotarians do make a point of congratulating SK, if you haven't already done
so, and make him feel welcome in our midst. If you have already done so, ... why
not do so again?
This Week's
Birthday Celebrants
1st July - President Ram
"Bo", who shares his birthday with the late Princess Diana and American
"actress" Pamela Anderson, the silicone-valley-enhanced "star" of such
forgettable TV shows as "Baywatch", 2nd July - Mervyn "The Abacus" Cragg, who
shares his birthday with Dan Rowan, former co-host of the 60's TV comedy
"Laugh-In", which launched the career of Hollywood mogul (?) Goldie Hawn and
many others. Say "Goodnight Dick" !!
District &
International Events: On 29th June 2000, the "first" (or, if if you
prefer, "the first with this particular format and magnitude") District
Handover Gala Banquet was held in Hong Kong's own world class Convention
& Exhibition Centre, Wanchai North. Starting with a reception and lots of
fellowship, with over 900 people present, although the number banqueting was in
the region of 850. Our own DG uninstalled himself by installing DG John, Dr the
Honourable Rosanna Wong Yick-ming, JP, taking time off from her other
pre-occupations, addressed the gathering and Friendship and Co-operation
agreements were signed with the Agency for Volunteer Service, the Hong Kong
Junior Chamber, Lions International District 303 and Zonta International
District 17. If all that wasn't enough there followed the induction of many new
members of the District, which must be a first for Hong Kong followed by a
moving performance by Miss Amy Wong and the Hong Kong Youth Choir. Psst!! When
he didn't think anyone was looking I cought PP Vince looking as if he was
enjoying himself.
