Another message from the President:

My dear Golden Milers,

The  topic  intended  for last week's  meeting was "Beer appreciation". Because the speaker could not come, thanks to RTN Diana Chou, we had Josotte Balsa speaking to us about "Art appreciation". The audience was prompted to get to a higher plain intellectually and emotionally in order to fully realize what art appreciation is all about .

RTN  Clarissa Bellstedt (one of our newest members), armed with the information gained through her attending the recently held District Annual Assembly, talked to our members about Public Relations and Internet in Rotary. She covered various points, during the short talk. (e.g: despite the dangers of internet, how internet could be used effectively, both internally and externally, for the benefit of members and the community for communication, identifying the right people in our community and explaining the ideals of Rotary as well as attracting them to the various community projects, our own bulletin and website as effective tools of communication and member education etc; to name a few.)

Our VP Alex Lau (as a speaker) and I, during the week attended a press conference on "Hong Kong's slums- a neglected area ". Our club had contributed to a project called "Designing Hong Kong" ("Cubicle Apartment community Project"), in which Chinese University of Hong Kong-Architecture Department - had participated. This was a good experience for all those who attended.

Thank you Diana, Clarissa and Alex ..

During the latest Joint President's meeting held in Macau, the RI Presidential Task Forces (under RI President- Elect, Frank Devlyn ), which will be effective from July 1, 2000 was explained. You will be hearing more about this and on how to "Create Awareness (and) -Take Action " from our President Elect Cassidy Lam in the coming days.

Though  our attendance record improved during Jan, Feb and March of this year (average 72 %) due to the  drag of the previous months the average for the whole year was only 64%. We have to definitely improve this. Kindly bear this in mind in the coming weeks. Please make up as much as possible.

Thank You all.
Yours in Rotary
Ramadasan
President 2000.

Annual Ball: Final Notice to PAY UP or be published !

The vast majority of members who made a commitment for seats and/or tables at the ball have paid up however, as usual, there are a few members (the usual suspects) who are dragging their feet.

Would the last six (6) members who have not yet settled kindly bring a cheque payable to "Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile" to this week's regular meeting and pass same to Ball Chairman Elissa Cohen.

Anybody who does not settle this week will DEFINITELY have the dubious honour of having their names published in next week's bulletin. Our Annual Ball accounts are complete, save and except for collecting funds from the few members who have yet to pay.

By the way folks, if you booked FOUR seats for the ball but you only had THREE attendees on the evening, you are still required to pay for the FOUR seats you booked.

This is called "honouring your commitment".

Cool Internet Sites:

http://www.dialpad.com is a website which allows members to make FREE telephone calls to the USA using an Internet connection. This site has NOT been tested by your Webmaster, however he has received positive feedback from friends in other countries.

http://www.totallyhk.com/ is an interesting website dedicated to Hong Kong, and the URL has already been added to the "Hong Kong Links" section of the KGM website. Really cool - check it out !

KGM Web Site:

Photographs from the Annual Ball have now been uploaded to the KGM web site. Click on "Member's Stuff" then "Photo Gallery".

Joke Of The Week:

A young man saw an elderly couple sitting down to lunch at McDonalds and he noticed that they ordered one meal with an extra drink cup.

As he watched, the husband carefully divided the hamburger in half then counted out the fries, one for him, one for her, until each had half of them. He then poured half of the soft drink into the extra cup, and set it in front of his wife. The old man began to eat, and his wife sat watching with her hands folded in her lap.

The young man decided to ask if they would allow him to purchase another meal for them so that they didn't have to split theirs.

The husband said, "Oh, no. We've been married 50 years, and everything has always been and will always be shared, 50/50."

The young man than asked the wife if she was going to eat, and she replied, "Not yet. It's his turn using the teeth."
