Another message from the President:

My dear fellow GoldenMilers,

This week has been hectic for all of us. The most important event was, of course, our Annual Ball of  Saturday-one of the best Balls that we ever had  ! Fine food,  a good band with great entertainments, never-stopping dancing, great discovery of a fine talent (David Harilela's band was fantastic! ) and lots of fun ! And to cap it all Ball chairperson, Elissa Cohen was the 1st prize-winner ! Through these columns, I want to thank her and all the committee members for dressing up the Governor and for making the whole thing a grand success !! You will get more news and details of funds raised etc; later.

The District Conference was attended by 8 members of our club. (Considering the involvement of many in the Annual Ball preparation this number is decent.) RI President Elect Frank Devlyn's theme of  " CREATE AWARENESS, TAKE ACTION " was explained and the District officials for 2000-2001 were introduced. Our members participated well in the various group discussion
sessions.

The weekly meeting of Wednesday (3-5-2000) saw one of our newest members, Danielle Adams talking to us about Rotary in Switzerland and how well clubs there are involved in various vocational and community service projects. e.g.: Programmes for people affected by land mines etc; In keeping with our general idea of working more for Rotary, such sharing of information will definitely  help our members. A team of Charter President, President and IPP from the Rotary Club of Admiralty was present in the meeting. Our curiosity was answered by the fact that they were making up more than 100 % attendance (as a designated Club Service programme to enhance attendance record as well as to use the opportunity to grant Paul Harris Fellowship to the member with the maximum make up percentage ! ). Let us take a leaf out of such news to improve our own record.

Let me remind the members/board :

(a) 28-6-2000 will have two events. Club Assembly and our Hand over ceremony.

(b) 29-6-2000 will be a separate function. (District installation ceremony will be on that day.)

(c) 7-6-2000  This board meeting will be a joint one. (For outgoing members as well as for incoming  one's)

Until next time, cheerio.
Yours in Rotary
Ramadasan
President 2000.

Annual Ball - 6 May 2000 - PAY UP !

OK folks, the ball is over for yet another year and many of you are probably sober by now.

You probably paid for your excesses of the evening on Sunday but now it's time to pay for your financial commitments to KGM.

If you have not already paid what you have to pay, please bring a cheque payable to "Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile" to settle the amount outstanding for tickets and/or programme advertising to this week's regular meeting.

Anybody who does not settle this week will have the dubious honour of having their names published in next week's bulletin.

Cool Internet Sites:

http://www.quios.com is an Internet website which allows subscribers to send SMS text messages to virtually any cellular telephone in the world.

Your Webmaster uses SMS frequently to send messages internationally to friends in the Philippines and other countries, however it is rather disconcerting that in Hong Kong he cannot send SMS messages between local networks (e.g. Smartone to CSL) !! Luckily the Quios web site comes to the rescue.  A really cool site.

KGM Web Site:

Your intrepid Webmaster is travelling again but, when he returns to Hong Kong on the weekend, he will upload photos from the last Annual Ball.

Joke Of The Week:

A rather elderly gentleman went to Watson's and asked the pharmacist for Viagra.

The pharmacist asked the old man: "How many would you like?"

The man replied "Just six pills, but please cut each pill into four pieces."

The pharmacist said, "That won't do you any good. You have to use them whole in order to get the desired effect !"

The elderly gentleman said, "That's alright, because I don't need them for sex anymore. I'm 85 years old and I just want it to stick out far enough so I don't pee on my shoes."
