A message from the President:

My dear Goldenmilers,

While acting with " CONSISTENCY, CREDIBILITY AND CONTINUITY "  to further enable us to "Create Awareness and Take Action", your President-Elect, Cassidy  and I considered the suggestion of seeking the help of our Directors as well as Past Presidents ,(each)  to become special mentors to a certain number of club members to improve the latters' participation in club activities and projects so that there will be improvement in the overall performance of the members and the  Club at large. A short discussion  of the same was done when our board met last time. We are working out the details of the same to be intimated to each member sooner.

As a part of  our members participating more actively in vocational service areas and helping our Partners in Service, the mentorship programme has been actively promoted by our Director Miranda Kong and PE Cassidy. Rotarian James Tsang gave a short account  on the 26th April meeting, of his involvement in this programme, by helping a member of our Rotaract Club by finding out  his  educational  and  career related requirements. It is heartening to see how a new member could get involved and through  his contribution and resultant  experience gain satisfaction of being a ROTARIAN !  I would urge other members to seek out such opportunities of service.

Before concluding this short note, I must remind all our members to work vigorously to strengthen the hands of our Annual Ball Committee Chairperson, Elissa Cohen to make the event on the night of May 6th, a grand success. Let us all look forward to an evening of fun and enjoyment!

Yours in Rotary,
Ramadasan
President 2000.

Farewell !

Sadly we have lost another member in Balaji Prasanna who, due to business pressure, is unable to maintain his attendance.

On behalf of all remaining members of KGM, I wish Balaji the very best for a safe, happy and healthy future and we hope that he will consider re-joining KGM (no re-joining fee !), when his circumstances permit.

 Next Board of Directors Meeting:

All KGM Directors are reminded that the next Board of Directors meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the 2/F, Holiday Inn Golden Mile hotel on Tuesday 2nd May, 2000. (i.e. tomorrow evening).

If you are unable to attend, kindly have the courtesy to inform Club Secretary Nanu Lachman in advance, to whom you should also send your written report of the status of your plans and activities since the last Board meeting.

Alternatively you may send someone from your Committee to present your report on your behalf, however your representative will NOT count towards achieving a quorum NOR can they vote on resolutions presented to the Board for consideration.

Kindly note that this is an official KGM Board Meeting, and should not be confused with the other "Board" meetings often held after our regular lunch meetings throughout this year.

Annual Ball - 6 May 2000 - Grand Hyatt Hotel - LAST CALL.

If the ball is to be a success, we need the support of EVERY member in KGM. Unfortunately we keep going back to the same old pots each year, but it's about time you, yes YOU, got off your backside and did something positive for the club for a change, OK ??. There are a number of ways in which you can assist, and the main three are:

1) Take at least ONE TABLE - no, you do not have to pay for it yourself - ASSEMBLE a table among friends who are not members of KGM. You do have other friends, don't you ? Or why not use this opportunity to invite your Bank Manager, your Accountant, your Legal Advisor and your Parole Officer ? Table sales are being handled by PP Raju and Rtn. Notan Tolani.

2) Place an ADVERTISEMENT IN THE BALL PROGRAMME - contact Neerja Sujanani, who will happily suggest an advert which is not one of those boring "With Compliments" styles, but something which is more interesting AND more in keeping with the "4-Way Test". For example, "Buy your next suit from Ali Baba's Tailor Shop - ready in 24 hours, guaranteed for 12" !

3) Contribute A PRIZE - no, I don't mean that free lunch for one at McDonald's which you won last week at another ball. We don't need a lot of crappy stuff that you don't want - we only need a dozen DECENT prizes, OK ? Contact Rtn. David Harilela with your proposed contribution.

OK ? Get the hang of it ? Simple really.

Annual Ball - FINAL Committee Meeting:

This will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday 3rd May 2000 immediately after the regular club meeting that day.

A separate reminder notice will NOT be sent out, so Ball Committee members are asked to please mark their diaries NOW !

Tokyo Joe ?:

Our old mate and former KGM member Steve Evans will be once again darkening our doorstep this week when he arrives in Hong Kong on the 2nd May, and KGM members who would like to catch up with Steve will have a number of opportunities to do so.

He will kick off his visit to our highly polluted shores by staging a one man drink-a-thon anti-pollution protest at the Chin Chin Bar of the Hyatt Hotel Tsimshatsui at around midnight on the 2nd May. This will be followed by his attendance at our regular club meeting on Wednesday 3rd May and he will also be attending our Annual Ball on the 6th May.

KGM members who catch up with young Steve at any of these times will be given Leave of Absence for one week to enable them to obtain treatment for alcohol therapy :-)
