Return Of The Phantom !

Bwa-ha-ha ! The Phantom has returned, but I am still very jet-lagged, so don't expect miracles this week, OK ?

Anyway, according to my spy, last week's meeting was very successful. Most of our tables were full, there were about 10 visiting Rotarians, we had an excellent guest speaker, the food was terrific AND President Ram "Bo" finished on time.

Huh ? What was that last comment ? I think my spy went to the wrong meeting !

Prospective New Members:

Minor correction: Prospective new member Danielle Adams was actually proposed for Active Membership by Membership Director Carola Masuch and NOT by PP Louis "Trailwalker" Thomas as reported in last week's newsletter.

PP Louis only tried, unsuccessfully, to accost Danielle, but luckily she knows Kung Fu and seven more Chinese words ! :-)

Change Of Address:

District 3450 Grand Pubah (our very own PP Dipo Sani), has advised us of his new office details, as follows:

Hindustan Trading Limited, Suite 901, 9th Floor, Bank of America Tower, 12 Harcourt Road, Central, Hong Kong.

His telephone and facsimile numbers will remain unchanged as follows:

Telephone: (852) 2730-9321     Direct: (852) 2735-7972

Facsimile: (852) 2735-6460 & 2735-3437

Email: dipo@hk.super.net and/or dcs@htcco.com

International Service:

International Service Director Patricia "Maggie" Blair informs us that our Japanese Sister Club, the RC of Hammamatsu South, will celebrate their 35th anniversary on 23rd April, 2000, which is over the Easter weekend AND during Cherry Blossom time !

KGM Members who would be interested in making a visit to our sister club during that time should send a brief email to Patricia care of patricia.blair@regus.com.hk as a "non-binding" expression of interest !

This Week's Speaker: Ms. Mabel Mak

Topic: Waste And Air Pollution.

Hmmm. This should be a LONG talk, 'coz Hong Kong has lots of both items.

I also understand the members of the Group Study Exchange (GSE) from District 7470, New Jersey, USA will be visiting KGM and giving us a small presentation on their various vocations.

My $10 says President Ram "Bo" will finish the meeting at least 10 minutes late. Any takers ?

Next Fellowship Event: Horse Racing Night ?

Date and Time: TBA

Venue: Hong Kong Jockey Club race course, Happy Valley.

Cost: Cheap !

OK folks, we're gonna try to organise it once again. Although details of the next Fellowship event are a bit sketchy, I know that our Assistant Fellowship Director Hans "Whip Me, Whip Me" Peter is not going to horse around (!) this time, and he is jockeying (!!) for a nice box at Happy Valley, so that we are not saddled (!!!) with a an ass (groan !) of a location.

If nothing else, the sooner he can get things organised, the sooner I can drop the corny horse jokes.

This Week's Birthday Celebrants:

20 March - Amy Shum, who shares her birthday with Big Bird (from Sesame Street) and one of the sexiest actresses in the world, Ms. Jane March, who starred in the VERY steamy movie "The Lovers" with Hong Kong actor Tony Leung and "Color Of The Night" with Bruce Willis.

PS: Jane, if you're reading this, please call me. I love you.

Forthcoming Club and District Events:

20 March - Arrival of GSE (Group Study Exchange) members in Hong Kong.

The members of the GSE will visit KGM and give a brief presentation on Wednesday 22 March 2000.

26 March - Seven-A-Side Soccer Tournament, Stanley Ho Sports Centre, University of Hong Kong, Sandy Bay.

Hmmm. I wonder if they have a "Seniors" division ?

1-2 April - 40th Annual District Conference, Landmark Exhibition & Convention Centre, Macau.

Please contact Rtn. Patricia Blair for more information, however I understand that KGM (yet again) is subsidising this District event.

KGM Web Site:

Nothing new to report this week.

Cool Internet Sites:

http://www.nightbite.com/main.html
is a fun tabloid "parody" site with some fairly offbeat humour.

http://metalab.unc.edu/lunarbin/worldpop  OK, if you're really, really bored and want to know how the world population is doing at any given time, then visit this site for a real-time view of how much doo-doo we are all in. Be patient for a few seconds while the Java script loads up.

Quote Of The Week:

"No one can possibly achieve any real and lasting success, or get rich in business, by being a conformist.

J. Paul Getty

Jokes Of The Week:

A Polish guy goes ice fishing. He cuts a hole in the ice and drops in his line. Suddenly a loud, booming voice says, "There are no fish there."

The Polish guys asks, "Is that you, God?"

And the voice says, "No, I'm the manager of the skating rink."
