A Message From President Ram !

My dear fellow Goldenmilers,

February is the month of World Understanding. We as Rotarians, should always endeavour the maximum to improve Goodwill, International Understanding and Peace. This can be done only through the spirit of Friendship.

During this month, please remember the all important date of (February) 23rd. This is the World Understanding and Peace  Day. It is so because it is Rotary's BIRTHDAY ! Let us live up to the ideals of Rotary which have been changing the world  in all walks of life.

A small reminder to those attending the RI Presidential Conference between 25-27 February 2000, to be punctual and to participate in all the functions enthusiastically. (Individual messages have already been sent out by me in this regard.)

Directors in charge of the various avenues of service, are reminded to send in their full report on or before 23rd February 2000 for onward transmission to our AG.

Wishing Rotary a HAPPY BIRTHDAY and to you all a prosperous Year of the Dragon once again,

Yours in Rotary,
RAMADASAN
PRESIDENT

This Week's Speaker: Dr. Vincent Lam B.Sc.(Hons), B.Ed., M.Sc., R.T., D.C.
Topic: Headaches And Other Pain !

Hmmm. Last week Georges Halpern spoke to KGM about "pleasure" and this week we have Dr. Lam speaking to us about "pain".

Is this some sort of new sado-masochistic but "cover me with melted chocolate and whip me with ostrich feathers" direction the Programme Committee have recently undertaken ??

Oh sorry. Stupid me. That's the topic of the next Vocational Service talk to be given to us by our very own Terrence "I'm STILL on my honeymoon and I can't get this damned smile off my face" Annamunthodo :-)

Anyway, according to Carola "Madame Lash" Masuch, Dr. Lam is a chiropractor with a pleasant and humorous personality, so there !

Next Fellowship Event: Mexican Night !

OK, folks, it's now official !!! Assistant Fellowship Director Hans "Pancho Villa" Peter has arranged our next fellowship as follows:

Date and Time: 11 March, 2000 at 7:30 p.m.

Venue: Coyote Bar & Grill, 114-120 Lockhart Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong.

Cost: Only $350 per head, which includes enormous servings of typical Mexican specialties including empanadas, quesadillas, stuffed jalapeno peppers and chicken wings of fire, all washed down with unlimited soft drinks, sangria, margueritas and beer. Ole !

Those of you taking the MTR (highly recommended), should take "Exit C" and turn left once you reach street level, and you will find Coyote is about 50 few metres away. Those preferring to drive can find parking in the First Pacific Bank Centre (entrance on Jaffe Road between Fenwick Street and Luard Road, opposite the new "Chinatown" bar).

As seating in Coyote is limited to a MAXIMUM of fifty (50) people, it will be a usual KGM case of "first to pay, first served".

If you want to attend this fellowship, Hans Peter will be glad to accept your cash/cheque from this Wednesday at lunch.

This Week's Birthday Celebrants:

25 February - The Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile .......... Hip-hip, hooray !!!!!

Yes folks, while Rotary International celebrates it's 95th anniversary on 21 February, KGM celebrates it's 13th birthday on 25 February 2000. Of course this means we have officially reached puberty, so I guess we can all expect pimples, more arguments with our parents and some really weird dreams and urges.

I had a dream the other night involving cucumbers, whipped cream and, er, ah, um, oh, never mind ..........

Anyway I think we should use our pubescent birthday to recognise the Charter Members of KGM who are still associated with KGM: DG Dipo Sani, CP Chandru Parmanand, PP Robin Ching, PP C.K. Tsang, VP Alex Lau and Rotarians Dayal Aswani, Notan Tolani, Don Sakhrani, Kenneth So.

Congratulations guys, and thank you all for the various contributions you have made over the years to the success of KGM.

Forthcoming Club and District Events:

(1) 25-27 February 2000 - Rotary International Presidential Conference, Regent Hotel, Hong Kong.

The KGM sponsored slots for this event have been fully subscribed.

KGM Web Site:

Nothing major to report this week coz, at the time of writing this bulletin, your Webmaster is in Singapore, and it is too difficult to update the web site from outside of Hong Kong.

Cool Internet Sites:

http://www.prematuree.com is yet another "health" web site, but it is one which specialise in answering questions which you may be too embarrassed to even ask your own doctor, especially if she looks like Katherine Zeta-Jones !

Needless to say, I won't quote any examples here, but this site is definitely worth a visit.

Quote Of The Week:

"I'd like to thank my family for loving me and taking care of me. The rest of the world can kiss my ass."

Joke Of The Week (Contributed by Mukesh Dayaram):

God looks over the thousands of people assembled at the Pearly Gates one day and said: "Welcome to Heaven.  The women are to go with Saint Peter, and the men are to form two distinct lines.".

God added: "The first line is for men who dominated their women on earth, and the second line is for men who were dominated by their women."

With much movement the women were gone and there were two lines of men.  The line of the men who were dominated by women is 100 miles long, however the line of men who dominated women contains only one man.

God became very angry and said: "You men should be ashamed of yourselves.  I created you in my image and you were all dominated by your women.  Look, only one of my sons stood up for himself and made me proud. Prepare to learn from him !"

God turned to the man standing by himself in the first line and asked "Tell them, my son, how did you manage to be the only one on that line?"

The man replied: "I don't know, my wife told me to stand here."
