Last Week's Meeting - AGM & Club Assembly

Well although I personally missed last week's meeting because I was out of town, my spies tell me that all went well with the two AGM's and the Club Assembly, and there were no surprises.

Of course "no surprises" means the audited accounts were accepted, the election (or confirmation !) of Directors for next year was basically a formality, the Club Assembly went smoothly and the meeting finished late. Again. Good ol' President Ram "Bo". You can accuse him of many things, but at least he is consistent. Ahem.

Anyway congratulations to President-Elect Nominee Ebe Tung "Chee Watusi", who will be KGM's second female President. She will become President-Elect on 1 July 2000 and she will assume office as Club President on 1 July 2001. Go get 'em, girl !!

Hmmm. Since wives of male Rotarians are often called "Rotary-annes", I suppose Ebe's better half will be a "Rotary-sam". I guess we should all be thankful the name of Ebe's hubby is not Richard, otherwise he would be a Rotary-d......., er, ah, oh, never mind.

Welcome Committee:

On duty this week are PP Robin "The Hood" Ching and Hans "Knees and Boom-sa-daisy" Peter.

Usual drill - extremely loud red sashes and be at the Holiday Inn not later than 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

This Week's Speakers: Mr. S. Claus

Topic: Annual Club Xmas Party

Members are reminded that this meeting is traditionally a family affair, and you are therefore encouraged to bring your significant other, your children, your parents, your pets etc. However, if you would like Santa to give a gift to any of your loved ones, please bring a suitably marked gift to the meeting. We're not that generous, OK ?

This Week's Birthday Celebrants:

23 December - KGM "Empress" Ebe Tung, who shares her birthday with Japanese Emperor Akihito.

26 December - Nanu "Nanu" Lachman, who shares his birthday with Mao Tse Tung, although I suspect Nanu will enjoy his birthday much more than The Chairman.

Next Fellowship Event: Horse Racing Night ?

Well folks, I have finally given up. It looks like there will be no KGM fellowship during the month of December.

IF we do have a horse racing night, the earliest we can do this is January, but don't hold your breath waiting, OK ? Apparently the Hong Kong Jockey Club cannot confirm whether or not the horses are Y2K compliant.

Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it .............

Forthcoming Club and District Events:

1) 15 January 2000 - District Mahjong Tournament, World Trade Centre Club, Causeway Bay.

2) 21 January 2000 - District Golf Tournament, Hong Kong Golf Club, Fanling.

4) 27-29 February 2000 - KGM visit to our sister club, the RC of Paranaque, Manila, to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

More information about these events will be provided at the next few regular club meetings.

KGM Web Site:

The Webmaster has added two (2) more free electronic greeting card sites under the "Search" section.

The first is "regards.com" which is a really cool site because you can send electronic greeting cards to your family and friends using your own web-based photos.

The second is "ohmygoodness.com" which has a fantastic selection of animated greeting cards.

Check 'em out and save a few trees this Xmas.

Cool Internet Sites Of The Week:

http://travlang.com/languages/ is a pretty cool site if you are interested in learning how to say things in foreign languages.

http://home.pix.za/mk/mk53/index.htm is an ADULTS ONLY humour page. No, it's not where I get all my jokes - that will remain a secret site, but this one is pretty good. Enjoy !

Quote Of The Week:

"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.
If you can fake that, you've got it made."

Joke Of The Week:

One particular Christmas season a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip, but there were problems everywhere.

Four of his elves were sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones, so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule.

Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mother was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were missing. More stress.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys.  So, now extremely frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a discreet shot of rum.

When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the elves had hidden the liquor, and there was nothing to drink.  In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider pot, and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor.  He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and a very irritable Santa trudged to the door.  He opened the door, and there was a little angel with a great Christmas tree.

The angel said, very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa.  Isn't it a lovely day?  I have a beautiful tree for you.  Where would you like me to stick it?"

Thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree ..................
