The Return of Mao
?
Visitors to KGM last week would have been forgiven for
thinking that Chairman Mao was alive and well and running our regular lunch
meeting. However closer examination would reveal that it was none other than VP
Alex "Visa Man" Lau, who was merely filling in for our
seemingly ever-absent President Ram "Bo", who is presumably on another one
of his overseas trips. Or maybe he just fell asleep again on the MTR and ended
up in Shenzhen. Whatever.
Anyway, VP Alex did an excellent job of running our meeting,
which also finished on time. Ahem.
We also enjoyed an interesting Vocational Service
presentation by Rtn. David Harilela on his vocation "Licensed
Merchandise".
Congratulations - More
Evidence:
I should've known this
would happen .............. the battle of the clucky Moms 'n' Dads is well
underway at KGM !
Of course the first
contributor to the maternity wing this year was our youngest member Neerja
Sujanani, however I forgot to post a copy of Baby Sujanani to our web site.
Hence, after I posted a photo of Baby Cragg last week, I was immediately
cornered by the lovely Neerja who demanded equal billing. Fair
enough.
So, in a sense of fair
play, your erstwhile Webmaster has graciously agreed to upload a photo of ALL
new additions to the new KGM Junior Program, as follows:
There. Is everybody happy
now ?
Welcome Committee:
On duty this week
are Neerja "Hey What About Me?" Sujanani and Kenneth So "Far So Good".
Usual drill
- Extremely loud red sashes and be
at the Holiday Inn not later than 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

This Week's Birthday
Celebrant:
24 November - Jim "Dragonheart" Smillie, who shares his
birthday with Scottish comedian Billy Connolly and the late but great orator and
management trainer Dale Carnegie, author of "How To Win Friends And Influence
People".
Last Fellowship Event: Chinese Night
& Karaoke !
As usual, the generous Chinese members of KGM gave us a
wonderful, fun-packed evening, with excellent Sze Chuen cuisine, and an endless
supply of liquid refreshments plus a variety of games, quizzes and other
entertainment. Many members wore traditional Chinese garments, which gave the
evening an authentic air, although I suspect that Shanghai Tang did a brisk
trade last week !
Nonetheless a truly enjoyable evening, which also managed to
painlessly raise the sum of $6,000 for our Community Service Fund.
The biggest surprise of the evening was the incredible vocal
skills demonstrated by David Harilela, who did such an excellent job of the song
"Words" (Bee Gees), that he had his audience totally captivated. At the other
end of the scale (actually it was OFF the bloody scale), our beloved DG Dipo
Sani's rendition of "Only You" was bad enough to make your ear drums pop.
But then, who am I to talk ? Whenever yours truly sings,
the SPCA sends their emergency services to deal with what sounds like two cats
with seriously sore throats in heat.
Anyway, on behalf of the "non-Chinese" members of KGM, a huge
thanks of appreciation goes out to our MC's for the evening, our VP's Ebe
Tung and Alex Lau, and all the other Chinese members who contributed to such a
wonderful evening. Thank You !
Next Fellowship Event: Horse Racing
Night ?
Although the final details are not finalised yet, we are
hoping to organise a Horse Racing Fellowship at Happy Valley Race Track in the
middle of December. Our fellowship committee will be liaising with KGM Club
Advisor PP Larry Parmanand on this event.
This has always proven to be a popular and fun evening, so
watch this space ---> <--- for more details
soon.
Forthcoming Club & District
Events:
Vocational Service
Visit - Clotex Label Co. Limited.
This will be held on Saturday 27 November 1999, and all members should have
already received a fax about this event. If you are interested in attending but
require further information, please contact Vocational Service Director (and
factory owner) Miranda Kong on 9199 3077 as soon as possible.
KGM Fund-Raising Walkathon - 5 December
1999
This event will commence
from the sitting-out area above Wong Nei Chung Gap and end 4 miles and about 2
hours later at Tai Tam Tuk Village (200 metres north of Tai Tam Scout Sea
Activities Centre).
The route will commence
uphill with what PP Louis describes as a "minor incline" towards Parkview (i.e.
steeper than the lobby of the Holiday Inn but less than climbing Mount Everest
!). The remainder of the route is either flat or downhill on rendered
surfaces or country paths, and the route passes through the most beautiful
country park in Hong Kong.
Anyway, your club hopes
that this event will be the sole Fund Raising event of the year, and we expect
that every member will raise (or contribute) not less
than the paltry sum of $2,000 in sponsorship. Official KGM Sponsorship
Forms are now available from our beloved President-Erect Cassidy
Lam.
If we don't achieve our
Fund-Raising target with this event, we will need to embark upon additional
fund-raising activities, so please support this event and maybe we can leave you
alone for the rest of the year, OK ?
KGM Web Site:
OK, I've got some good news and some bad news !
The good news is that photos of the Chinese Night have
already been uploaded to the KGM Web Site and these can be found under the
Member's Stuff/Photo Gallery section.
The bad news is that your dopey Webmaster used his brand
spanking new, all bells and whistles digital camera to take the photos of the
evening, HOWEVER he managed to inadvertently erase about ten excellent shots
because he failed to RTFM (Read The Flippin' Manual) properly before processing
them on his notebook computer. Damn fool !!
Oh well. Some days you're the dog and some days you're the
lamp post. I guess I won't be standing on 3 legs this week ......
Cool Internet Site Of The

For
instance, did you know the "Heavenly Twins" were named Castor and Pollux ??
Do you recall where you heard those particular names recently ?? Answer at

Joke Of The Week:
THE TOP 10 THINGS I LEARNED AT THE MOVIES:
1. All bombs are fitted with electronic timing devices with
large red readouts so you know exactly when they're going to go
off.
2. If you must defuse a bomb, don't worry which wire to
cut. It's always the red one.
3. It does not matter if you are
heavily outnumbered in a fight involving martial arts. Your enemies will wait
patiently to attack you one by one by dancing around in a threatening manner
until you have knocked out their predecessors.
4. Honest and hard working policemen are always gunned
down three days before their retirement.
5. During all police investigations, it will be necessary to
visit a strip club at least once.
6. All beds have special L-shaped cover
sheets that reach up to the armpit level on a woman but only to waist level on
the man lying beside her.
7. All paper grocery shopping bags contain at
least one stick of French bread.
8. It's easy for anyone to land a plane
providing there is someone in the control tower to talk you down.
9. The
Eiffel Tower can be seen from any window in Paris.
10. Even when driving
down a perfectly straight road, it is necessary to turn the steering wheel
vigorously from left to right every few moments.
Castor and Pollux Troy were the names of
the two criminal brothers in the movie "Face Off", starring John Travolta and
Nicholas Cage.
