Well folks I have finally returned to our grossly
over-populated and polluted shores, which is only obvious after spending almost
three weeks enjoying the space, greenery and fresh air which abounds at the
tropical paradise of Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines.
<Sigh>
I must confess though that Hong Kong loses some of it's charm
after Cebu but, then again, just as Willie Mays replied when he was asked why he
robbed banks ("That's where the money is"), we all know why
we eventually return to Hong Kong !
Congratulations - The
Evidence:
Our old mate (and eminently
proud father) Mervyn "The Horny Toad" Cragg, sent me a photograph of his latest
achievement in the form of Jasmine Sophie Cragg, who readers will
recall entered our world on 6 November weighing in at 6lbs 15
ozs.
By the way Mervyn, have
you had a snip-snip yet ? If not, I have a reasonably sharp knife, rubber
gloves, a bottle of Tanduay Rhum and a shotgun. The knife and gloves are for
you. The Tanduay is for me. The shotgun is for Selina. Need I say more
?
Welcome Committee:
On duty this week
are Silva "Dollar" Yeung and Miranda "King" Kong. You guys should know the
drill by now, right ??
Extremely loud red sashes,
black boots and whiskers. Or is that for Xmas ? Whatever. Just look silly and be
at the Holiday Inn not later than 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Carry on.
This
Week's Speakers: Rtn. David Harilela
Topic: Vocational
Talk
KGM members will recall that fellow
KGM member David was originally supposed to give his talk to us last month (?)
but, due to circumstances beyond our control (i.e. The Previously Late But Now
Much Improved President Ram "Bo"), he was unable to do
so.
It therefore behoves us to give David our
full support and encouragement on his second attempt at speaking to
us.
Nonetheless, would the Sergeants-At-Arms
kindly organise a posse and lynch mob for our Fearless Leader, just in case
he somehow manages to er, ah, um, "rooster" it up again.
Thanks.
This Week's (and last week's) Birthday
Celebrants:
12 November - Thomas "Larry, Curly and" Mo, who shares his
birthday with David Schwimmer, who plays anthropologist Ross Geller in one of
The Phantom's favourite sitcoms "Friends";
17 November - Chris "Tomorrow Never Comes" Carroll, who
shares his birthday with diminutive actor/director Danny De Vito, who has played
numerous comedy roles in sitcoms such as "Taxi" and movies such as "Twins"
(opposite Big Arnie);
20 November - Raju "Pssssst ! Wanna Buy A Suit ?" Daswani,
who shares his birthday with Bo Derek, who starred in the movie "10" (and not
much else !).
Next Fellowship Event: Chinese Night
& Karaoke ! (Last Call)
Date and Time: 20 November, 1999 at 7:30 p.m.
Venue: Sze Chuen Lau, UG/F, South Seas Centre, 77 Mody Road,
Tsimshatsui East.
Ample parking is available in the building and nearby at
Chinachem Plaza and New Mandarin Plaza.
It's still a case of good news (it's free to non-Chinese
members) and bad news (there's karaoke), but I say the good news outweighs the
bad news, even considering that PP Robin "Willie" Ching and PP Cassidy "Julio"
Lam may give us their joint rendition of "To All The Girls I've Loved
Before".
If you have not yet confirmed your attendance with Fellowship
Director "Stormin'" Norman Liu, you better do so not later than this week's
meeting. Anybody who fails to book and turns up anyway will be seated close to
PP Robin Ching without a splash guard when he sings. Be afraid. Be very
afraid.
Forthcoming Club & District
Events:
KGM Fund-Raising Walkathon - 5 December
1999
This will be
held on Sunday 5 December 1999, commencing
from the sitting-out area above Wong Nei Chung Gap and ending 4 miles and about
2 hours later at Tai Tam Tuk Village (200 metres north of Tai Tam Scout Sea
Activities Centre).
The route will commence
uphill with what PP Louis describes as a "minor incline" towards Parkview (i.e.
steeper than the lobby of the Holiday Inn but less than climbing Mount Everest
!). The remainder of the route is either flat or downhill on rendered
surfaces or country paths, and the route passes through the most beautiful
country park in Hong Kong.
Anyway, your club hopes
that this event will be the sole Fund Raising event of the year, and we expect
that every member will raise (or contribute) not less
than the paltry sum of $2,000 in sponsorship. Official KGM Sponsorship
Forms will be available soon.
If we don't achieve our
Fund-Raising target with this event, we will need to embark upon additional
fund-raising activities, so please support this event and maybe we can leave you
alone for the rest of the year, OK ?

Cool Internet Site Of The
Week:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/ is a really
interesting site, which can answer many of the deep, soul-searching questions
which have plagued you since your high school days (e.g. "Why Is The Sky Blue ?"
and "What Causes Flatulence?").
Check it out !
Quote Of The Week:
"The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they
set for themselves."
Ray Kroc
(Founder, McDonald's)
Joke Of The Week:
A policeman was patrolling near midnight at a local parking
spot overlooking a golf course. He drove by a car and saw a couple
inside with the dome light on. Inside there was a young man in the
driver's seat reading a computer magazine and a young lady in the back
seat calmly knitting. He stopped to investigate.
The police officer walked up to the driver's window and
knocked. The young man looked up and obligingly cranked down the car window. The
boyish looking driver said, "Yes, Officer?"
"What are you doing?" the policeman asked.
"What does it look like?" answered the young man. "I'm
reading this magazine."
Pointing towards the young lady in the back seat, the officer
then asked, "And what's she doing?"
The young man looked over his shoulder and replied, "I think
she's knitting a sweater."
Confused, the officer asked, "And how old are you, young
man?"
"I'm nineteen," he replied.
"And how old is she?" asked the officer.
The young man replied after glancing at his watch, "Well, in
about twelve minutes she'll be eighteen."
