From Under The Kitchen Sink: Our spy in the Holiday Inn kitchen, Vincent "You Want Sprouts With That?" Lam, informs us that this week's fare is Xmas food (doh!), namely roasted pumpkin soup with crispy garlic and either Christmas turkey on gravy with fried sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts or vegetable picatta on pepper sauce with fried sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts, followed by Christmas pudding with brandy butter, ending with coffee or tea.

Next BOD Meeting - TONIGHT:

KGM BOD Members are reminded that the next BOD meeting will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m., Monday 20 December 2004, at Jade Suite II, at the 2/F of the Holiday Inn Golden Mile hotel.

If you can't attend and haven't already notified anybody, please call President Silva "Dollar" Yeung on 9408 1198 NOW.

Semi-Annual Dues:

Yes folks, it's time once again to pay your dues of $1,500 for the period 1 January to 30 June 2005, and you have two payment options:

1) By cash handed directly to KGM Treasurer Rajiv "Show Me The Money" Makhija; or

2) By cheque payable to "Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile", mailed to P.O. Box 98129, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon.

If you elect to pay by cheque, please remember to clearly write your name on the back of the cheque, because our overworked and unpaid Treasurer doesn't always know which company name belongs to which member.

Fellowship News - KGM Xmas Party:

Yes folks, it's once again time for the annual KGM Xmas Party, and this year the event will be held next week during our regular club meeting on Wednesday 22 December 2004.

KGM members are invited to bring their children, parents, grandparents, friends, business associates, domestic helpers, secretaries, pets and other house-trained creatures to the party, which is invariably a time of fun, fellowship and good cheer (i.e. gallons of eggnog spiked with rum). There will be a performance by the children of KGM members, who should bring a small gift for their own children.

However if you plan on bringing a child (other than the one you married), please contact Fellowship Director "Lady" Diana Yeung on telephone 9197 8615 NOW, as she would also like to prepare a special gift for them.

Program - Call For Assistance:

Our old mate and KGM Program Director Brian "Butt Naked Behind A Bulldozer" Hodgson, is currently spending a lot of time in China, so he's finding it increasingly challenging to secure speakers each week for our regular club meetings.

Of course Brian is ably assisted by Terrence "Mr. T" Annamunthodo, but the Program Committee would like additional assistance from other KGM members. To check which dates are available, check the speaker listings on the KGM website, then liaise with Brian and Terrence by sending them an email.

Speakers on virtually any topic of interest to KGM members would be most welcome, but it would be nice to have some speakers which don't make The Phantom feel as if he's about to croak due to his excesses.

Rotary Information:

The 4-Way Test: One of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world is The 4-Way Test. It was created by Rotarian Herbert I. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of the Chicago-based Club Aluminum Company, which was facing bankruptcy. Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy.

Herb Taylor became president of Rotary International during 1954-55. The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages and published in thousands of ways. The message should be known and followed by all Rotarians.

“Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

Golden Smile:

A lawyer married a woman who had previously divorced ten husbands. On their wedding night, she told her new husband, "Please be gentle with me, because I'm still a virgin." The puzzled groom replied, "What? How can that be possible? You've already been married ten times?" The wife replied:

"Husband #1 was a sales representative; he kept telling me how great it was going to be, but I never experienced the product.

Husband #2 was in software services; he was never really sure how it was supposed to function, but he said he'd look into it and get back to me, but he never did.

Husband #3 was from field services; he said everything checked out diagnostically but he just couldn't get the system up.

Husband #4 was in telemarketing; even though he knew he had the order, he didn't know when he would be able to deliver.

Husband #5 was an engineer; he understood the basic process but wanted three years to research, implement, and design a new state-of-the-art method.

Husband #6 was from finance and administration; he thought he knew how, but he wasn't sure whether it was his job or not.

Husband #7 was in marketing; although he had a nice product, he was never sure how to position it.

Husband #8 was a psychologist; all he ever did was talk about it.

Husband #9 was a gynecologist; all he did was look at it.

Husband #10 was a stamp collector; all he ever did was ........... God, I really miss him!

but now that I've married you, I'm really excited!"

"That's nice to hear", said the new husband, "but, why?"

 "Well, you're a lawyer. This time I know I'm gonna get ..........".

Quotable Quotes:

"In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season - Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; Jews called it 'Hanukah and went to synagogue; the atheists just went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall'."
