BOD
Meeting: Tonight
KGM BOD Members are reminded that the next BOD meeting will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m., Monday 16 August 2004, at the 2/F, Holiday Inn Golden Mile hotel. If you can't attend,
call President Silva "Dollar" Yeung on
9408 1198 or Secretary Mazhar
"Bizarre" Sultana on 9303 8881 or send them both an email.
Fellowship News:
Our very own crime buster, Anthony "Dirty Harry" Wong has very kindly organised a combined Vocational Service and Fellowship event for us next month at Tai Po Police Station. The Vocational Service part is a "Tussle In Tai Po Boxing Match", where
Female Hong Kong Police Officers get to beat the living doo-doo out of
each other in the boxing facility for wayward youth, which KGM helped
sponsor last year, after we were given an inspiring presentation by Police
Supts. Danny Lawley & B.J. Smith during one of our regular lunch
meetings.
The event will be held on Saturday 4 September 2004, and the
incredibly reasonable cost of only $300 per
head includes bus transfer from the Holiday Inn Golden
Mile, a number of bouts of boxing, plus an excellent "East Meets West"
buffet dinner at Hong Lok Yuen Resident's Club. However please note these
important points:
1. The bus will depart the Holiday Inn at 5:00 p.m. sharp (that's HK time, not "Bombay
time");
2. Seats on the bus are limited to the first 60 who
respond.
For those of you who prefer to get there under your own
steam, you must be at Tai Po Police Station by
5:45 p.m. On arrival, just go to the Report Room and tell
the Duty Sergeant the secret phrase "Yo momma's so fat, when her pager
goes off, people think she's backing up", and I promise that he'll take
really good care of
you.
In any case, if you'd like to attend, please
contact Vincent "Rocky" Lam by
email
or on telephone 9045 6871
ASAP.
Fund-Raising News: Our old mate and KGM Vice-President David "DJ" Harilela has secured a supply of
promotional music CDs, which include an eclectic mix of songs from
well-known artists such as David Bowie, Sarah Brightman, Atomic Kitten,
Enigma, and Hong Kong's very own Danny Diaz. The CDs were originally sold by the FCC for
$50 each with all proceeds
going to the Po Leung Kuk, however the supply which David secured sell to
KGM members for the same price but 50% of the
proceeds can be retained by KGM for our Community Service
projects.
The CDs are excellent
value, and include a postcard depicting Hong Kong's
nightlife, so they would make excellent gifts for visitors to Hong Kong,
as well as gifts for friends, relatives and business associates
overseas.
David usually brings a small supply with him to each
regular meeting, however KGM members interested in reserving copies are
urged to contact David's efficient assistant "Amazing" Grace by email
ASAP, before they're gone.

The statement, which comes from the Constitution of Rotary, is frequently seen on wall plaques in Rotarians’ offices or places of business. The Object of Rotary is “to encourage and foster the ideal
of service as a basis of worthy enterprise”. The statement
then lists four areas by which this “ideal of service” can be fostered:
1. Through the development of acquaintance as the opportunity for service; 2. The promotion of high ethical standards in business and professions; 3. Through service in one’s personal, business, and community life; 4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace. The Object of Rotary has not always been expressed in this manner. The original constitution of 1906 had three objects: promotion of business interests, promotion of good fellowship, and the advancement of the best interests of the community. By 1910, Rotary had five objects as increased emphasis was given to expanding Rotary. By 1915, there were six objects. In 1918, the objects were rewritten again and reduced to four. Four years later, they had again grown to six and were revised again in 1927. Finally, at the 1935 Mexico City convention, the six objects were restated and reduced to four. The last major change came in 1951 when the objects were streamlined and changed to a single object, which has four parts.. Golden Smile: A group of third, fourth & fifth graders,
accompanied by two female teachers, went on a field trip to Happy
Valley race track to learn about thoroughbred horses and the
supporting industry.
During the tour, some of the children wanted to go to
the bathroom, so it was decided that the girls would go with one teacher,
and the boys would go with the other.
As the teacher assigned to the boys waited outside the
men's toilet, one of the boys came out and told her he couldn't
reach the urinal. Having no choice, she went inside and began
hoisting the little boys up by their armpits, one by one. As she
lifted one of them, she couldn't help notice that he was unusually
well-endowed for an elementary school child.
"I guess you must be in the fifth?", she said.
"No ma'am" he replied, "I'm in the seventh, riding
Silver Arrow, but thanks for the lift."
