Our guest speaker this week is Ms. Mey Jen Tillyer and the subject of her talk is "Belly Dancing".Given that quite a few members have an excess of the basic equipment, this should prove to be a fun meeting, especially as there will be a demonstration.
 
And, according to our spy in the Holiday Inn kitchen, Vincent "The Galloping Gourmet" Lam, this week's menu is Chinese food, and will include the following delicacies:

Attendance - Group Makeup:

KGM Group Makeup's are the most fun thing you can do without removing your clothing (unlike some of our fellowships).
 
Anyway, our charming Attendance Director "Lady" Diana Yeung, has organised a Group Makeup for KGM members who are falling behind in their attendance (you know who you are). The group makeup will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday 10 November 2003 at the RC Wanchai, who meet at the luxurious Grand Hyatt Hotel.
 
Members interested in attending can obviously just show up, but it would be nice to forewarn Diana by calling her on 9889 9908 or by sending her an email.
 
 

New Avenue of Service - Last Call:
 
KGM, being an innovative club, has decided to launch a 5th Avenue of Service - Maintenance Service. Yes Sir.
 
Our effervescent Vocational Service Director Vincent "Bone Bender" Lam has organised a Beauty Afternoon with Dermalogica at 4:00 pm Saturday 1 November at One Capital Centre, 23/F, 18 Luard Road, Wanchai (vicinity of Joe Bananas).
 
Although most of our male members could certainly do with some minor cosmetic surgery (e.g. a head transplant), this event has been tailored exclusively for female KGM members and the long-suffering "significant others" of male KGM members.
 
Once the facial reconstruction surgery, er sorry, I mean "Beauty Treatment" is finished, our revitalized ladies can then join the rest of us at Tsuen Wan for our fellowship event on the same day - see below. Hey, we might even have a Booty, er, Beauty Contest.
 
Anyway, KGM Members and KGM "Significant Others" of the female persuasion interested in attending this event should contact Vincent on telephone 9045 6871 or by email.
 
 

Fellowship News - Last Call:


Our old mate, KGM Fellowship Director PP "Butch" Cassidy Lam (a.k.a. Body Beautiful), reminds us that the next KGM fellowship will be a Poolside BBQ Night to be held from 7:00 p.m. on Saturday 1 November, at the Panda Hotel, Tsuen Wan.
 
The cost is once again a very reasonable $200 per head, and this includes a delicious selection of BBQ items, washed down by an unlimited supply of beer and soft drinks, all to the accompaniment of a live band (as opposed to a dead band).

Community Service News:
 
Our bubbly Community Service Director Miranda "King" Kong advises us of the following important items:
 
1) A delegation of members will visit one of the primary schools KGM built in China in 1998, in order to determine the status of that school and their future requirements. The delegation will depart Hong Kong by ferry at 08:30 a.m. on Monday 3 November, and will return around 9:00 p.m. Members must pay for their own return ferry tickets at $350 per head, however the club will bear the costs, if any, of ground transportation within China.
 
2) KGM, in collaboration with the St. James' Settlement, has embarked upon a project to supply much needed electrical appliances to the elderly in Hong Kong - details (Chinese language only). Your Board has already approved the sum of $30,000 as our contribution towards this project, however we're also seeking donations of suitable electrical appliances.
 
Our old mate Balu "Kojak" Chainrai has already stepped up to the plate and made a generous contribution of appliances, and we hope more KGM members who also have electrical appliance connections will follow Balu's lead.
 
3) Your Board has agreed to contribute $10,000 to support the Tsuen Wan District Fight Crime Committee which embarks upon a variety of crime prevention awareness campaigns, targeted primarily at youth. The next event is a visit to Stanley Prison which will take place from 1:00 p.m to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday 12 November, and KGM members  have been invited to join the 20 or so secondary students who are participating.
 
Of course KGM members who attend this visit in lieu of the regular club meeting will be given an attendance credit.

International Service News:
 

Yes folks, the "on again, off again, on again, off again" visit to Manila is "on again".
 
Our resident Bee Gee and International Service Director David "Cares" Harilela is leading a delegation of KGM members on a visit to Manila in order to renew our ties with the members of our sister club, the RC Paranaque, and to discuss the progress of their "Cleft Lip & Palate" corrective surgery program, which KGM has been financially supporting since 1990.
 
The delegation will depart for Manila on Friday 28 November and will return on Sunday 30 November or Monday 1 December, at each member's discretion.
 
David has organised a package deal of $2,500 per head, which includes economy class airfare, twin share accommodation and breakfast at a 5-star hotel in Makati. An additional fee of $300 per head is payable by those requiring their own room.
 
Members interested in joining the delegation should contact David by telephone on 9168 8333 or by email.

Every Rotarian an Example to Youth: In 1949, the RI Board adopted the slogan "Every Rotarian an Example to Youth" as an expression of commitment to children and youth in each community in which Rotary clubs exist. Serving young people has long been an important part of the Rotary program.
 
Youth service projects take many forms around the world. Rotarians sponsor Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, athletic teams, centers for disabled children, school safety patrols, summer camps, orphanages, recreation areas, safe driving clinics, county fairs, child-care centers, and children’s hospitals. Many clubs provide voca­tional counseling, establish youth employment programs, and promote use of The 4-Way Test. Increasingly, drug/alcohol abuse prevention and AIDS awareness projects are also being supported by Rotarians.
 
In every instance, Rotarians have an opportunity to be role models and mentors for the young people of their community. One learns to serve by observing others. As our youth grow to become adult leaders, it is hoped each will achieve that same desire and spirit to serve future generations.
 
The slogan accepted over 50 years ago is just as vital today.. 

 

Advice from the Geek - repeated:
 

When sending an email message to multiple recipients, the correct protocol is to use the "Bcc" function of your email software, so that replies sent to you are not copied to all other recipients on your original message.
 
Using the "Bcc" function also protects the identify and email addresses of all recipients and it helps prevent their email addresses from being "harvested" by spammers.
 
Of course if it's absolutely essential that all recipients see the names of all the other recipient's as well as their replies, then you can use the "To" or "Cc" function.
 
However for most purposes, the "Bcc" function is the smart and considerate way to go.
