Rotary Information: World Community
Service: A World Community Service project is born
when Rotary clubs from two or more countries join together to accomplish a
community service project. The WCS program links Rotary clubs needing
extra help with clubs in other countries that are willing to provide
funds, materials, and technical and professional assistance.
The World Community Service program was officially
launched in 1967. Since then, thousands of WCS projects involving
Rotarians around the world have been completed. Each year, Rotary clubs
provide an estimated US$26 million in funds and supplies. World Community
Service projects have three criteria:
• The project must be humanitarian in nature. • Rotarians in two or more Rotary countries must be involved. • One of the participating countries must contain the site of the project. Eligible World Community Service projects include
international projects that are:
• Listed in the WCS Projects Exchange Database; • Formed through networking at international conventions or other meetings; • Identified by Group Study Exchange teams; • Completed with pooled funds, shared donated goods, or volunteers assistance; or • Recipients of grants from The Rotary Foundation. Ask The
Geek:
The Geek is out of town this week. Grumpy
grumbles:
Don't you just hate the way some people don't stick to their commitments? Our International Service trip to Manila was cancelled three times in succession, due to numerous people pulling out at the last minute except the guy who didn't want to go in the first place, and who was asked to lead the group. And you wonder why they call him "Grumpy"??? Who Am
I?
What is the more common name
of actor/comedian Albert
Einstein? (This is not an
error!)
Clue: Starred in "Unfaithfully Yours" with Dudley Moore and in "Private Benjamin" with Goldie Hawn. The answer appears at the bottom of this issue. Golden Smile: Contributed by KGM
Member Thomas "Eenie, Meenie, Mynie" Mo.
Peter goes on vacation to the Holy Land
with his wife and her mother however, during the vacation,
his mother-in-law dies.
They visit an undertaker who explains that
they can ship the body back to Canada, but it'll cost over US$5000,
whereas they can bury her in the Holy Land for only US$150.
Despite the incredible cost difference,
Peter says, "We'll ship her home."
The undertaker asks, "Are you sure? That's
an awfully big expense and we can do a very nice burial here."
Peter says, "Look, 2000 years ago they
buried a guy here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I
just can't take that
chance!!" Quotable Quotes:
